This Barbie Doll Birthday Cake was made for my daughter’s 3rd birthday tea party. She’s very much into princesses so I thought I’d try to use the Wilton Wonder Mold Kit.
I used 1 1/2 cake mixes in the mold and cut the bottom of the skirt slightly to even it out (after it was fully cooled). I frosted it with a crumb coat, using Betty Crocker canned frosting with a bit of powdered sugar added for additional stiffness, and put it in the refrigerator for a bit to harden.
The ruffled skirt was made using a #104 Wilton tip. I made some slightly darker tinted frosting to do a final bottom edge ruffle. The beaded edging around the fondant bodice was made using a #1 Wilton tip, using the slightly darker tinted frosting. It was also used to make earrings and a necklace on the toothpick Barbie doll. I let the cake chill overnight before serving at the party, so the frosting would be good and set.
Needless to say, my daughter LOVED her princess cake!
what a great job you’ve made of this Barbie cake. I love it,it’s fab.
