This barnyard cake was made for my son’s second birthday. It was my first homemade cake.
I started out well in advanced making the animals and fence out of marshmallow fondant and then stored them in an air tight container until ready to use. I made three 9×13 cakes, two for the bottom and then one for the barn. I iced the two bottom cakes with store bought icing and added green food coloring. I used a knife to make the grass texture.
To make the barn I just cut it into shape stacking 3 layers high and then covered in icing and fondant. The silo is made of sandwich cookies using frosting as glue and covered it in fondant also. I crumbled graham crackers and shaved chocolate for the dirt road and placed the tractor on it. (The tractor is the only thing not edible).
Under the pigs is just icing with brown food coloring to get the look of mud. Finally putting my son’s name, Nehemiah, on the bottom and the 2 on the hay. Took a lot of prep but I had a lot of fun and it was a big hit!
