Ahead of time I printed an edible image and applied it to rolled fondant with clear vanilla extract and allowed it to dry for at least a week. I then attached lollipop sticks to the back of the baseball banner with royal icing and allowed them to dry for several days. The orange banners are also rolled fondant with lollipop sticks attached with royal icing.
I baked a 12 inch square cake for this Baseball Birthday Cake. I crumb coated the entire cake with white buttercream icing. I applied a second smooth coat of white buttercream to the sides of the cake. I used a toothpick and clean ruler to gently mark lines on the top of the cake to indicate the baseball field. I filled in the grassy areas with green buttercream, piped with a #18 star tip. The sand is a combination of crushed graham cracker crumbs and brown sugar.
The bases are rolled fondant. Finally, I piped birthday greetings on the side of the cake.
This looks fantastic :)
I am using your cake as inspiration for a 5 year old’s wish for a baseball field. Thanks for sharing, yours looks great!
You did great. I bet you can do anything you set your mind to.
