I made these basketball goal cupcakes for my son’s 2nd birthday. We had an “All Star Sports Theme.” These were very simple to make. I used a white cake mix, of course you could use any flavor of your choice. The cupcake liner is the “net” so I did want it to look white. You also need a large sugar cookie for each cupcake for your backboard. I used store bought cookies that were soft. A harder, more sturdy cookie would have worked better just because they crumble
easily if knocked over.
Once your cupcakes are cooled, frost them lightly with white icing. Frost your sugar cookies half way down. Place a dot or line of frosting on the back of the liner and “glue” on your cookie backboard. Lay them down on the cookie side until they are dry. I used orange gel to outline the cupcakes to make the goal rim, backboard outline, and square. Then I placed basketballs on the edge with a little extra icing underneath. Mine are actually chocolates, but if you can’t find them you should be able to find plastic balls in any craft store.
These were a big hit with the kids and adults alike. I hope you try them for your next birthday or March Madness Party!
I have a few cake questions and was wondering if you could help me out. :)
