I got the idea for this BBQ Grill Birthday Cake from this site. I made a two layer cake, I used chocolate frosting and added black Wilton food coloring to it to make black. I covered the entire cake black. I mixed a bit of white icing to the black icing to make a lighter shade, grey to make grill lines on the black for the top of the grill.
I then melted tropical star burst, the orange and pink ones, in the microwave for a few seconds, you don’t need to have it totally melted, just enough to mix them together. Then I shaped them into the shape of a hot dog. I made 3 of them. I then put them in the fridge to cool, they kind of flatten a bit but I kept taking them out and rolling them between my hand and the counter, put them in the fridge a bit more untill they were hard.
I then used melting chocolate from the grocery store to make the hamburger patties. They were a bit soft, so I just patted them like you would a real patty and they looked just perfect. I placed them on the cake and then used a paint brush and dipped it into the black food coloring and painted on the grill marks.
It was that easy! Everyone loved the hot dog!
