I made this Beehive Birthday Cake for a baby shower for my daughter’s preschool teacher. The school threw her a shower and they asked me to make the cake. Each class had a different bug for their class and her class was the “Busy Bees” hence the beehive cake.
This cake was a white almond sour cream cake with buttercream frosting. I used 10 inch, 8 inch, and 6 inch pans. Each size had two layers. It was a very heavy cake and I did not use anything to stabilize or support it but it turned out okay! I made the bees out of fondant and just used pictures from the internet as a guide. I used buttercream at the base of each layer to hide imperfections from putting the fondant on (because I had no idea what I was doing)!
It turned out really tasty and (I think) super cute! This cake served about 50 people and they sent the top layer home with her teacher. I know there probably isn’t a high demand for beehive cakes but it was a really fun cake to make!
