We got our ideas from this website and howdini. You definitely need to make the towers ahead of time (at least 2 days) which was made with ice cream cake cones stem to stem, wrapped in white fondant. The fondant needed time to harden.
This was my first time using fondant and it was not as hard as it seems. The top of the tower is a sugar cone with butter cream icing then rolled in pink sprinkles. The homemade birthday castle cake is a gluten free cake which was also a learning experience. For chocolate (Bottom base) you have to use two boxes for each cake so that is rises if not you get a ¼ inch cake.
The top is a yellow cake (1 box was enough). Once the cake was frosted, I turned the decorating over to my kids. I put together the towers when they were done. We had a blast making this homemade birthday castle cake.
