Cool Homemade Birthday Snake Cake

After my son decided on a Birthday Snake Cake, we looked online for a bit until we found one with the colors he wanted and I went from there. I used a boxed cake mix and put 1/2 of the mix in a bundt pan and cooked it and then when it was done I put the other 1/2 of the mix in and cooked that. That way, I had two smaller cakes that I could use and were nice and rounded on top instead of just one that I would have to carve a bit more.

I simply cut each bundt cake into two equal halves and arranged 3 of them into a snake shape and then used the final 1/2 to fill in between pieces and to carve the head and tail.

I made a large recipe of buttercream and tinted most of it green and reserved a little of it to be orange. I did a quick crumb coat and stuck the whole thing in the freezer for about an hour to make it a bit easier to decorate. I used a star tip and filled in the whole cake.

Finally, I used 2 M&Ms for the eyes and a red Dot candy that I heated, flattened and cut for the tongue. I dyed a bit of coconut green to use for grass.

My son was super happy with it and it really was not very difficult to make!
