My son was celebrating his 15th birthday and thought it would be pretty funny to request a cake that looks like a sandwich on my Facebook page. So that is exactly what he got… his favorite sandwich is the B.L.T!
I made the homemade BLT Sandwich birthday cake from two 9×9 square cakes. Once chilled I let them sit on the counter for a couple minutes so I could trim the domes off. I did the top first (thick coat of buttercream) let it sit in the fridge while I crumb coated the bottom layer (frosted to a large cutting board for real effect). Let that sit in the fridge for about 5 minutes to form a slight crust and then took choc buttercream and went around the outer edges (crust) and a little spread in the middle.
The “toppings” were made from fondant a few hours ahead of time. I placed the fondant pieces on, layering slightly and draping the edges. I finished “crusting” the top slice that was chilling and pulled the edges toward the center to blend them, which gave it the baked edge look, dropped a few bits of choc. buttercream on top and smoothed with a paper towel to look like a few crumbs on top, then set it on top of the bottom slice and fixings.
I stuck a toothpick in the fondant olive and lightly placed it on top, voila! I thought it would be cute to add props to the picture :)
Awesome!!!
I love this cake. It’s amazing
