For my daughter’s 2nd birthday, she wanted a Blue’s Clues cake. Her older sister had a “Blue” cake, so she chose a “Magenta” cake instead. We used the same cake pan, the Wilton Blues Clues Cake Pan.
We used the Wilton Release with a pastry brush to completely coat the inside of the pan. After baking, the cake came loose completely and didn’t stick anywhere. We covered a cake board with aluminum foil so the icing colors wouldn’t bleed onto the cake board. We crumb coated the cake with white icing first so no crumbs would get in the colored icing.
We followed the directions that came with the pan. I believe this cake pan is discontinued, but we found it easily online. It comes with step by step instructions to help make decorating it very easy. It explains all the techniques you’ll need. We followed the directions using tips 3, 16, and 21. We used tip 3 to pipe in the Happy Birthday message on the Handy Dandy Notebook. We used tip 16 to do the stars that covered the body, and tip 21 to decorate along the edge of the entire cake to finish it off. Since she wanted a Magenta cake, we just used Wilton icing colors to make several shades of pink icing rather than the blue.
She loved her Magenta cake and it was a huge hit at the party – we had lots of leftover cake too – it made a lot!
