Coolest Homemade 3D Bowling Ball and Pins Cake

My 13 year old daughter and 8 year old son each had a party at the Bowling alley. It was on the same day so I made them each their own bowling cake that they designed so that they wouldn’t feel gipped.

This one my daughter designed. I used the Betty Crocker pan for the bowling ball, only using the inner (smaller) part. I made 2 of these with buttercream to hold them together and covered with Marshmallow fondant that I rolled after adding the green gel food coloring to marblize the ball.

I did use a White Almond Sour Cream cake so that it would hold up. I ended up doing the pins out of Rice Crispy Treats that I upped the marshmallow and did not add butter. I also had crushed the rice crispies significantly to make it more smooth and hold together more firm. I just free formed them the best I could, then covered them with the marshmallow fondant. I made just a regular 9X13 and covered it with penuche frosting (which hardened WAY to fast) then painted on the wood grain. I used some dowels under the pins to hold them up.

It was nearly exactly what my daughter wanted, and they didn’t even care about the flaws!
