After asking my son for weeks what he wanted for his birthday cake, he finally gave me an answer two days before his party! Not just an answer, but a design! A design of a box troll cake.
So, after a frantic trip to the fab cake supplies shop 25 minutes away to get edible ‘Fragile, This Way Up’ and his facing box labels printed, I came home and modelled Rice Krispie treats into a head and limbs.
Using movie photos I found online, I colored fondant to cover the appendages, and make features, etc. Cake pop sticks provided a means to attach them to the cake the next day after they’d had some time to set up.
I baked two quarter sheet cakes, one chocolate and one vanilla. After trimming them to size, I filled the bottom two layers with vanilla pudding, and placed a board on top of the supports (cake pop sticks wrapped in foil ). I filled the top two layers with pudding and covered everything in caramel frosting and piping details. I also added my edible labels.
I think it turned out ok!
