I got the idea for this Boy’s 1st Birthday Cake from this website. I thought it was a very fun and creative idea for my son’s 1st Birthday cake.
I used 2 boxes of funfetti cake mix and baked the cake in a large 12×18 sheet cake pan. I baked the cake the day before my son’s birthday and let it cool in the fridge overnight. The next day, I used cardboard stencil I made of the number 1 to cut out the number 1.
I mixed vanilla frosting with blue food coloring to get the shade of baby blue that I wanted. After frosting the cake, to use the excess cake that I cut out for my letter blocks. I placed them on the cake in the positions that I wanted and frosted them. This was the hardest part in my opinion because the edges were completely raw.
I then drew the letters of my son’s name on the blocks and outlined the edges with white tubed frosting. I used mini marshmallows to border all around the bottom of the cake. The last thing I did was sprinkle sprinkles all over the cake to top it off.
What a cute idea! I love how you placed blocks on top of the cake spelling out your sons name. Very nice!
