I made this building blocks cake for my niece and nephew’s first birthday. I am a self taught cake maker and knew it would be a challenge. But wanted to give them the best cake ever. My sister in law found a picture of some building block cakes and said can you make something like this! The bears are both made of sugar paste and was the first time I had made bears, but they were surprisingly easy and took me about half hour to make.
All the blocks were hand cut 7 cm x7 cm out of home baked Madeira sponge and home baked chocolate sponge which was very time consuming as was cutting different colored sugar paste squares and all the shapes to stick on the board and blocks. All in all it took me about 10 hours to make but it was well worth it. My sister in law loved it as did all the party goers.
