I made this Butterfly and Flowers Birthday Cake for a friend’s daughter’s 3rd birthday. I made 2 different sized round chocolate cakes and covered them in buttercream and pale pink fondant (sugarpaste). I made white fondant (sugarpaste) and I used cutters to cut out her name, age, three butterflies and lots and lots of flowers and leaves. I used paste food colourings mixed with alcohol to paint the flowers, leaves and butterflies and sprinkled them with various colours of edible glitter.
I used pink, gold and blue dragees for the middles of the flowers and the spots on the butterflies. I put the small cake on top of the big cake using buttercream. I mixed some of the pink sugarpaste with hot water to make a “glue” to stick on the flowers, leaves and butterflies. I put the flowers and leaves around the outside of each cake and also where the top and bottom cakes met. I mixed edible gold with alcohol and painted the letters and number gold, then stuck the name and age around the bottom cake. I put the butterflies in the middle of the top cake.
Naledi loved her very girlie cake!
