I made this Butterfly birthday cake for my granddaughter’s 2nd birthday. I used candy melts to make the butterflies, first I drew a few butterflies on paper the size I needed, then I covered them with wax paper and used squeeze bottles to “draw” with the melts.
I kept the wings separate from the bodies so they stood up on the cake. It was the first time I had ever used the candy melts and they were pretty easy (just make sure you have a hat pin or other large pin to keep the openings clear).
The flowers are made of fondant in a press then put together using water mixed with a little gum paste. The small butterflies were made using a silicone mold, and fondant. I am new to cake decorating but have found that just being a little crafty and having the courage to just do it works wonders. I got the idea to do this cake from the plates and napkins for the party.
What a great cake – very creative and original! Can I order one of these? Thanks,Patty S.
