My step daughter wanted a butterfly cake for her 8th birthday. So I traced a picture of a butterfly on to paper and placed it on top of a chocolate cake. I made the chocolate cake in a rectangle tin. I then pinned the picture down and cut around the shape of the butterfly using a sharp knife.
I would normally use butter cream icing and would pipe this but in this instance. I used fresh whipped cream with strawberry essence and red food colouring. I just used a knife to smooth it all over the cake. The cream turned out a baby pink colour, which was good as this is my girl’s favourite colour.
My step daughter chose her own decorations for me to decorate her cake. They included coloured sprinkles, mini marshmallows for the outline of the cake and gummy bears. The cake was so nice and light to eat using the whipped cream. I also used piped cleaners in the top for the feelers and placed 8 candles down the centre of the cake.
This was a very quick and easy cake to make.
