This butterfly cake was for a friend’s mother, turning 75. I baked 3 9″ rounds and used two full cakes for the top wing section. The third I used for the bottom wings.
I drew out the wing pattern to the size and shape I needed. I then took a black sharpy and traced the pattern. Take a piece of wax paper and tinted piping gel and trace one size of the wing pattern onto the wax paper. Press this gently on to your frosting. It will leave a faint outline of your pattern. Turn over your wing pattern and copy the reverse side on to wax paper for the other wing. Use a #3 tip and trace your gel piping pattern in black.
Fill in the rest with the colors of your choice. The body is a star tip for texture.
I HOPE this makes sense!
This cake is gorgeous. Great job!
This cake looks like it was created by a professional cake decorator. And THANK YOU for the tip on using the tinted gel on wax paper to transfer the design. I will definitely use that tip in the future. Nice job!
