This isa Candace from Phineas and Ferb Cake that I made for my daughter’s eighth birthday. After finally finding a picture of Candace smiling (she is usually frowning or frustrated), I practiced drawing her on paper to create a stencil about the size of a 9 x 11 cake pan.
For the cake I used a boxed cake mix (Betty Crocker Devil’s Food) and canned frosting (vanilla). I also used tubes of frosting for outlining the eyes and mouth. I colored the frosting with food coloring to make the colors. The hardest part was getting the hair to be the correct color. I ended up using a lot of red and yellow “drops” to create her hair color.
Once the cake was cool, I traced the stencil onto the cake using a toothpick and cut it out with a serrated knife. I used a crumb layer (very important!) of frosting (I heated the frosting in the microwave for a few seconds to make it very soft and easy to spread) and let it dry. After it dried, I used a toothpick to define the features and then filled in with the colored frosting.
It took about an hour to frost/decorate- and I was crunched for time. It might have been a little better and smooth looking if I had used buttercream frosting. Regardless, it was fun to make and turned out pretty well!
