I decided to make my daughter’s 1st birthday cake and wanted to do a Care Bear theme. I used a 3D Care Bear cake pan I found on Ebay. With this Care Bear Birthday Cake I found that I had to cook it a lot longer than what the instructions stated because the middle of the cake was still real soupy.
I made buttercream icing that I tinted with Wilton color gel to make pink for the bear’s body and red for the heart. I outlined the bear in black decorator icing. I used Wilton star tip 16 to decorate the cake. I mixed my icing the night before, so when it was time to decorate I found that the icing was too hard to use. I rewhipped the icing and it helped, but what helped the most was letting the icing sit out for several minutes to let it get back to it’s original soft consistency.
