To get the design of this Carebear Cake, I got a blank design from the internet, and edited and enlarged it on the computer, then printed it and cut out around it.
I made a simple vanilla cake mix times two or three, then used a large baking dish (as I did not have a cake pan this large)for the main cake, and also did a small bowl shaped pan, with a small amount of batter (tummy), and a muffin sized one (nose) and a couple of the smaller patty cake ones to give myself a variety of pieces to use.
I placed the paper design over the main cake, and used a toothpick to prick through the paper to make like a dot-to-dot for me to see the picture on the cake. Then I cut up and placed the tummy, nose and ear pieces onto the main cake, sticking them down with icing.
From there I made a light and dark pink icing, keeping some white for the tummy and other bits. Then simply coloured the cake in. I used licorice sliced into thin strips as an outline (this was an afterthought as I found it too hard to draw the outline with icing, the licorice was my mother’s idea, which worked out well as it hid any mistakes where the two colours meet).
I used Turkish delight pieces to cut out the heart shapes, this was only due to the fact that I couldn’t find anything better to use. The birthday girl was very happy with the result, and I was quite pleased with how it turned out, and it was yummy too!!
