I made this Homemade Cars Race Track Cake last year for my son’s 3rd birthday party! It was a huge hit and he was so happy! I made 2 9 inch round yellow cakes and 2 9 inch round chocolate cakes (from scratch). After all four cakes were baked and cooled, I leveled them with a serrated knife to even out each side and then I iced in between the layers with buttercream. I then placed the yellow and chocolate side by side and cut about an inch from the middle to mold them into a race track shape.
Next, I used white buttercream icing to ice the whole entire cake. For the race track I dyed some icing black and put a small bowl in the center of each side of the cake and iced around the bowl. Then I used white good and plenty candy for the white tracks on the road. I then coated marshmallows with green sprinkles and stuck them into the cake with toothpicks as well as added some checkered flags. For the green icing I used a Wilton grass tip and pastry bag. The cars I got at Target in the party favors section and I used cars cake candy also.
My son is turning 4 soon and he wants another Cars birthday cake. I need to find something to top last years!
