I made this Carsousel birthday cake for my son’s 1st birthday.
Using 2 8″ chocolate cakes, one for the base and one for the top, I covered each in sugar paste and decorated with both cut out shapes (stars) and royal icing with a little edible gold paint here and there for effect.
Each cake was placed onto a thick cake board. The board supporting the upper part of the cake war prepared by first drilling holes to hold the dowels that would both support the cake and act as poles for the carousel horses.
Each dowel was wrapped in a thin sausage of sugar paste before securing a gingerbread pony to each.
Beautiful! A true work of art. Looks almost too good to eat.
