This Castle Birthday cake is unique, due to the fact that it is almost entirely edible. There are no plastic accessories and only the trees and candles are non-edible.
I opted to make an edible faux stone finish with an airbrushed effect to give the castle a more realistic look. My towers were sugar cones and regular cones, dipped in candy coating and rolled in pink and purple sanding sugar. Pink and purple are my daughter’s favorite colors. The tower in the middle of the cake, on top of the second layer, was made of cake as well and rolled in pink sanding sugar; there was sanding sugar on the area around it as well as plastic trees.
For the moat, I airbrushed blue on the cake plate and mixed green, black, and blue into piping gel for an algae effect. All in all, I was happy with my first attempt at a castle cake.
You did a great job!
