I made this Castle Birthday Cake for a friend of my daughter’s little girl’s third birthday. As it had to travel, I dowelled the towers which were plastic rolls covered with glycerin icing, and ice cream cones for the tops.
I split an 8inch butter Madeira sponge cake and filled it with jam and cream. Then crumb coated the whole cake with buttercream and 2 layers of fondant. I decorated the castle with windows, flowers and ivy leaves made from gumpaste and sprinkled the whole cake with lustre dust, then added a princess which I bought from the supermarket (as my previous attempts at modeling a princess have been laughable!).
I was pleased with the end product, and it traveled well. The birthday girl was thrilled with it, and her mum said it was “magical”. Hope you like it.
