This Castle Birthday Cake Design was my first cake I ever made in any kind of detail. It was a lot of fun, I just wish I had more time because I had a lot more detail in mind for it I just ran out of time on the big day!
The cake was homemade and very yummy as was the buttercream icing. I made the towers ahead of time out of ice cream cones and fondant. It was pretty easy and I left the fondant a little thick so that it would get nice and hard. I didn’t even need dowel rods for the for bottom ones because they just stood on their own! I dipped the peaks in pink chocolate and then brushed them with shimmery dust I found at the craft store (edible).
I used sugar cubes for the top of the cake which was easy and worked out pretty well. I used fondant for the flowers, windows, towers, and door. The rest of the decor was piped butter cream.
I had vines on the bottom, but the green is a little light on the picture. Next time I would make it darker. I also had ideas for more flowers, butterflies, and piped pumpkins (Cinderella theme) but ran out of time. For quick added decorations I sprinkled some heart candy on top of the cake and everyone was VERY impressed and loved the cake!
