Coolest Homemade Purple Christening Cake with Daisies

I made this Christening cake for a baby girl’s Christening. The cake is “Darn Good Chocolate Cake” out of the Cake Mix Doctor Cook Book. It was excellent!

I used the Wilton cross pan for the top layer and baked a 12×18 cake and cut that into pieces to make 2 additional layers, for a total of 3 layers. I filled the cake with butter cream and also iced it in butter cream. The daisies I made about 5 days ahead of time out of fondant.

The name plaque on the front of the cake was also made in fondant and left to dry. Once dry, I piped the message on with royal icing.

  1. Buttercream does melt in extreme heat if you use a lot of butter. If you use half butter and half shortening, it’d be more stable.

Also, your frosting does have to be firm enough to hold up. Be sure it isn’t too liquidy.

This cross cake is gorgeous, great job!
