I made this Cinderella birthday cake for my friend’s daughter’s birthday! She LOVES Cinderella! I made this with the Wilton wonder mold. For the cake I used Duncan Hines chocolate cake as she is a chocolate lover. The skirt took 2 boxes and the base was another 2 boxes. That’s a lot of cake!
Instead of oil I used apple cinnamon applesauce. It made the cake SUPER moist. I used butter cream frosting for the dress. Wilton has a great easy recipe. I did a layer of frosting (blue) first then let it sit overnight in the fridge and did the detailed frosting layer. That made things much easier. I also used the Wilton Frosting Decorator plus to do the lacing on the front of the cake. I found some silver and sparkling dust to put on the white part of the dress to make it shimmer and add the magical feel.
Instead of the doll pieces you can buy, I just bought a princess Barbie. That way she has it to play with! She was so excited when she found out there was an actual Barbie that she could play with in the cake! That was a big hit.
I made “marshmallow” fondant. Super easy! Just a bag of marshmallows, a bag of confectionist sugar and 2 tablespoons of water. I did use vegetable shortening to keep it from sticking to my hands! For the pillow that holds the slipper I used hot pink colored fondant and put it in these great hot pink sprinkles to make it look jeweled. I also used red sprinkles on the plate to add some more bling.
This took 2 days to do. I’d say about 5 hours in total. I think the next round will be a bit quicker. It was very fun to do!
