After browsing on this site for ideas, I decided on a Construction Birthday Cake with construction vehicles.
I made a 10″, an 8″ and a 6″ cake to form the three tiers. Once I had iced them in between the layers, I used a kitchen knife to carve the roads winding around the cake. I then iced the whole cake with chocolate buttercream frosting.
The trees were green buttercream that I let harden overnight. Some trees had a Twix bar as a trunk and others a pretzel rod. I used a star tip to make the pull out lines on the evergreen trees and squiggles on the other trees.
I bought construction toys at the Dollar store and cone candles at the Party store. I added chocolate sprinkles to the hole where the digger had “dug” to make it look more like dirt.
It was a really easy cake to make and my son loved it for his second birthday!
