Cool Homemade Construction Site Birthday Cake

My little boy was turning two and I had already done a baseball cake for his first birthday so I was looking for something different. So I looked around online to get some ideas and came across some great cakes. He loved playing with trucks, so I went to the store and bought a pack of construction trucks/tractors.

I made two chocolate cakes with chocolate frosting to hold the cakes together and on top to look like dirt. I didn’t try to make the frosting too smooth since it was going to be a construction site. I colored coconut shavings with green food coloring. I bought a pack of sweetened coconut and put it in a bag with green food coloring until it was the shade I wanted. I spread out the “grass” around the edges and set up the trucks/tractors with brown sugar in the appropriate places and I used pretzel sticks as tree trunks in the back of the dump truck.

I used road cones and caution signs to complete the look.
