This Construction Truck Birthday Cake is a simple cake to make. I baked two 13 x 9 inch cakes and leveled them with a cake leveler. I used canned chocolate frosting for the filling between the two cakes. I crumb iced the entire cake with canned white frosting and then dyed more white frosting with brown, green, and orange Wilton Cake Icing Dye.
I frosted the entire cake with the brown icing and then lined the top edge with chocolate rocks that you can find at specialty candy stores. (The kids really loved the chocolate rocks). I used truck toys that my kids already had but they can be purchased at toy stores. I bordered the cake with green frosting using the “grass” decorating tip (Wilton #233).
I crushed some graham crackers and put them on the cake as the dirt and then placed the trucks. I used the orange frosting to write the message. I used the extra chocolate rocks in the back of the dump truck and it was a good thing I did because all of the kids at the party wanted the rocks on their piece of cake.
