I made this Cookie Monster Birthday Cake for my son’s second birthday. He loves Sesame Street and Cookie Monster in particular. I used 2 round chocolate sheet cakes (very dense cakes) and stacked them with whipped cream in between. I printed out a picture of Cookie Monster and my husband used a toothpick to outline the shape on the cake. I then cut it out and used leftover cake to make the bulging eyes.
I decorated with buttercream icing in black, blue, and white. I made the mistake of not doing a crumb layer of icing first, so the “fur” icing didn’t stick as easily as I would have liked, especially on the sides where gravity was working against me.
I used tip #233 to create the fur effect. The cookie in Cookie Monster’s mouth is just a packaged chocolate chip cookie, and I used buttercream to stick the characters and the candle on the surrounding cookies.
