I made this creepy crawly snake cake for my 7 year old Grandson’s birthday to fit in with his creepy crawly party theme. The snake was the focal point and as I had made it earlier and left in my conservatory where it was cold , the icing had taken on a realistic slimy sheen which was quite disturbing as I handled it to place around the cake!
The easiest part was adding the worms and ants which I did last and covered any small flaws in the icing which obviously helped with the overall finish of the cake. The top piece is a spider candle holder which I already had. I filled this with black sugar paste (where the candle should go), this then gave a base to stick the 7 candles in.
I did raid Alfie’s toy box for a few plastic creatures which I obviously removed before cutting. The sponge inside was colored green and orange to add to the theme and the cake was washed down with ‘ swamp juice’.
All the boys loved the cake and enjoyed the dares to eat the ‘worms’ and ‘ants’.
