My son loves Curious George so I decided to make him a Curious George Birthday Cake for his 2nd birthday. I put this cake together after looking at a few different designs on this website.
My goal was to make this cake as easy on myself as possible, so I wouldn’t get too stressed out. Everything is store bought. The cake was chocolate and I bought three different frosting colors: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white. I mixed the milk chocolate and white together to make the tan color for the face.
Most of the decorating was done with a spatula, and piping was done with various size writing tips.
I baked two round cakes for the head and used dark chocolate frosting as the filling. The ears consist of two half cupcakes stacked on top of each other. The hair is one half cupcake turned on its side. I attached the ears and hair with the milk chocolate frosting and then frosted them. I piped the outline of the face with the lighter tan frosting and then frosted around the rest of the head with milk chocolate. I put it in the fridge to cool for 5-10 minutes and then came back and filled in the face and tops of the ears with the tan frosting. Then I put it in the fridge to cool again.
For the face, I used the lid of a ketchup bottle to make imprints for the eyes, piped in white frosting, and then smoothed it out. I used a 2 liter soda cap to outline the pupils and filled in with dark chocolate frosting. I freehanded a small circle of white frosting to finish the eyes. The nose and mouth, and outline of the face, eyes and ears are done in dark chocolate frosting.
The cake was delicious and my son could tell right away it was Curious George. I was really happy with the result!
