Coolest Diego Cake

This is my first attempt at decorating a cake, thanks to the great ideas for a Diego cake on this site.

I used a Diego Lego’s activity set as inspiration. The cake was made in a 9×13 glass pan. I tinted the store bought frosting with regular food coloring. I added colored sprinkles to the grass area. The sand is crushed graham crackers.

I made the leaves for the trees and that surround the sides of the cake with meltable candy wafers, just squeezed out of a zipper bag into the shapes and cooled on wax paper. I assembled them into tree shapes after they cooled with more melted candy and added the bananas (available in bulk candy section at grocery store).

I used M&M’s around the bottom of the cake for color, and to disguise my not-so-great piping job. This was a huge hit with my 2 year old, and my 5 year old. Not only did it cost less than a basic store bought cake (including the Lego set!), but my son has a great toy to play with, too.
