After looking fruitlessly at bakeries to find that special cake for my dino-loving soon-to-be 2 year old, I stumbled across this site. I decided to make his Dinosaur cake, and to my surprise, it was easy and tuned out awesome. I had so many compliments at his party. Basically everything I did came from the many tips provided at this site.
I cut a 9″ round cake in half and iced it together for the body. The feet, tail and face were made using mini cake pans. I used a simple round mini to make the feet by just cutting the cake into fourths. The face was a mini bundt cake that made it easy to stick to the ice cream cones for horns, and the tail was made using a mini heart cake pan.
The ruffled neck of the triceratops was a 9″ round cake cut into spikes. Tinting the homemade buttercream icing green using Wilton’s gels, using the star tip to pipe the icing, and finishing with Wilton green sparkles the cake was completed start to finish (including cooling time) in about five hours.
Using the Moist Deluxe cake mixes and Wilton’s recipe for buttercream, the cake was so delicious. Of course, as I set it out I broke the last letter candle that spelled out his name. So instead of reading Connor it read Conno. It gave the adults a laugh and I’m sure DS will not remember this mistake!
