This is the third time I’ve made a dinosaur cake like this, and is my best yet. I used the Wilton doll cake tin and made a couple of muffins at same time. I used the muffins to make the head and tail.
Cut one muffin with a straight edged round cutter and turn it on its side for the head. Use the left over rounds to make the neck. Cut the other muffin to make a tail. Cover cake and stick all bits together with butter crean. Then cover with fondant icing.
Using modeling tools, or knife and little finger, cut shape for mouth and make a hole for eyes either side. Fill eyes with white fondant ball and then a bit of black. Cut chocolate buttons in half to put across cake to make the spines.
In past I have also done spots using smarties. Mold left over green fondant and shape for legs. Use modelling tool or cocktail stick to do nails.
This is great! It’s just the idea I was looking for. Simple, pretty easy to make and put together, and very effective. Well done, a great job! Thanks for the clear instructions. I’ll be making a dinosaur cake form my son’s birthday in July.
