Cool Homemade Disney Cars Race Track Cake

I couldn’t decide what cake to use for my son Ethans first birthday, but I know I wanted it to be Disney car theme. So his Godmother Jodie and I came up with this Disney Cars Race Track Cake, and I think it worked quite well.

It was a big cake, I used six packets of the White wings Moist cake, which is under $3 per packet. I made them in a big bessemer cooking tray and laid them side by side. I curved each corner of the cake to resemble the outside of a racetrack. I had pre-made the black racing squares by mixing black Wilton colouring to White orchard premade white icing/fondant, rolling them and cutting out in squares and left out for a few hours to get a bit stiffer.

I first just put down some Betty Crocker White icing and arranged the squares to get a checkered effect for the outside trim of the cake. We used lamingtons for the racetrack, slicing them halfway so they sat not too high on the cake. We then mixed coconut with food colouring in a snaplock bag and that was our grass. We used left over black fondant to make Ethan’s name and added props such as the checkered flags, gas pump, trophy and of course the lightning McQueen car.

We were so happy with the outcome and proud to share it. Feel free to ask any questions and thanks for looking at our masterpiece.
