I designed this Dolly Cake for my daughter’s 2nd birthday. At first I was unsure on what to do but decided on the thing she loved the most, her dolly. By free hand I drew the dolly on wax paper then cut out the parts, head, arms, legs, dress, hands, etc.
Using Wilton paste I coloured my fondant, rolled it out to about 5mm thickness then carefully traced out the parts using a sharp paring knife. The flowers I carefully put together myself using fondant and allowing them to dry overnight to set hard before sticking them to the cake. On the day of the party I iced my half slab cake with a stiff buttercream icing and arranged the dolly on top.
I then finished off the cake by piping a pink trim border around the top. The end result was a success as my daughter recognized her favorite dolly.
