This Donkey Kong Bowling Cake was my 6th cake to make. It is a plain white cake with buttercream under marshmallow fondant. I printed out a picture that I wanted to use for the cake and then drew on the picture so I could use it to cut the cake to scale. I used a 11×15 pan and cut out the Donkey Kong body. Then I used a 9 in round and cut out the hand. The bowling ball was made out of using a Pyrex bowl.
After I got the shapes cut out of the cake I covered it in buttercream icing. I made sure the surface was sooth as possible. Then I colored the fondant and then laid it over the cake. After I got the main color of fondant down I added all the extra details. This cake did take me a long time but it was only my 6th attempt at this cake making stuff. I also used Wilton mini letters to do the name and the Happy Birthday. The entire top is marshmallow fondant even the small details.
It was fun to make. I guess it was a hit because the family has two more cake orders for the future!
