This Dragon Birthday Cake was for my son’s first birthday, he’s not into much yet, so Mommy got to pick the theme! So, yeah, I used store-bought cake mix and frosting. But I added some vanilla and cinnamon and it tasted great!
The dragon and tendrils were made a week before so they could dry. The dragon is made with half gum paste and half fondant. I just sculpted him free hand and smoothed out the cracks with water. He’s got a smattering of pearlized green on his back, too. His little smoke tendrils are fondant worms I rolled around a toothpick to dry.
The blocks in the castle walls are rolled fondant that I marbled with black food coloring, in a couple phases, the day of. The door is, unfortunately, not edible. It’s plastic. I guess that counts as a cheating in somebody’s book. Not mine.
It was about a 6 hour job, and totally worth it!
What a great looking cake! You did a wonderful job on that.
