I made this Dragon Cake for my daughter’s 2nd birthday. After scouring the various Dragon Cakes on this website, I cobbled together a few suggestions and came up with this cake. (Thanks for all of the ideas!)
I made a triple batch of chocolate cake in one 10” round pan, one 9” round pan, one 8” square pan and about six muffin tins.
Body: I cut the 9” cake in half, stood them upright on their flat ends and put a thin layer of icing between the halves to stick them together. I also embedded two toothpicks between them to better keep the layers together.
Tail and neck: I cut a ‘curved tail’ and ‘curved neck’ from the outside of the 10” cake and placed it on either side of the body. I ‘filled in’ the slope from the back to the tail by adding part of a cupcake on top.
Feet: I used half a cupcake for each ‘foot’ and secured them to the body with toothpicks.
Face: I cut a triangular shaped face from the square cake, and added 3D eyes by using some of the leftover edges of cake.
Then I went to town with a decorating bag and star tip, using an ordinary butter icing with green food colouring. I used chocolate chips and yellow smarties for the scales, and two white chocolate discs for the eyes (used a blue Sharpie to colour in irises).
I also added candy treasure (chocolate coins and candy rings) and costume jewelry for the Dragon’s horde.
Super easy and fun!
thats an awsome cake. Very creative. Great job.
