My Elmo cake is really 72 cupcakes positioned on a giant piece of cardboard in the shape of Elmo’s head. It was a lot of planning. First I made a blueprint design using circles to represent each cupcake and I shaped these circles on paper to make the shape of Elmo’s head.
I started baking cupcakes right away. I made three different kinds, Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry so there would be a variety. I had a huge guest list.
Then after the cupcakes had cooled I just began putting them together to form Elmo’s head. Next came the frosting. I used store bought frosting, the ones in the can that come in all colors. I had Red-For the Fur, Orange for the nose, and White for the eyes, and Black for the mouth and the outline.
I was very short on time so I had some of the older kids help ice and they loved helping out. The last thing I did was add the red glitter sprinkles to give it something more. When the cake came down to the party you wouldn’t believe all the comments and compliments I got. I was so proud, my first attempt at a cake for my son’s first birthday came out better than I hoped!
