Elmo’s head is made from 2 boxed cake recipes baked in a Kitchen Aid stand mixer bowl. I baked it for 1 and ½ hours at 350 and then checked it every 10 minutes using a bamboo skewer until done.
Getting the frosting “Elmo red” took 1 and a half bottles of food coloring. Line edges of a cake stand with wax paper and invert cake on center of stand. Crumb coat the head with the red frosting. Insert eyes and nose into cake. The eyes are 2 Styrofoam balls covered in white frosting. The nose is a Styrofoam egg covered in orange-colored frosting. The eyes and nose are inserted into the cake with bamboo skewers.
I bought ready-made Wilton brand black frosting in a tube for the pupils of the eyes and the mouth. Elmo’s fur was created using the Wilton grass frosting tip. Remove wax paper from cake stand and voila – Elmo Cake!
This cake is great, how much would you charge to make one for my daughters birthday? We live in Elyria so I can pick-up (I think, where are you located in Cleveland?)
I love this cake as well! How much would you charge to make one??? I am in Independence.
