My friend is obsessed with the musical Wicked. Her husband asked us to make her Wicked themed cake for her birthday. All the fondant is homemade marshmallow fondant except for the black. We can never get marshmallow fondant dark enough without being a sticky mess. We try to keep some black fondant on hand from the craft store.
I made the “tiles” using a square cookie cutter. We rolled and cut out various size strips of the different colors for the top layer. Elphaba (the witch) is made entirely out of fondant. Her broom is a Pringles Stick with dry spaghetti bristles. I used an edible marker to write “Defy Gravity” on a tile.
My friend loved her Elphaba Birthday Cake and we had strangers at the restaurant coming up to look at it.
