My niece is head over heels for Wall E and Eve from Disney’s new movie. She turned 3 last weekend, so I decided to make a cake for her party.
Because the movie is so new, I couldn’t find any cake ideas online so I had to make it up. I found an Eve coloring page online and blew up the picture so closely fit a 9 x 13 pan. I cut out the picture, placed it over the cake, and cut out the shape. The arms are actually separate pieces cut after the main parts of the cake had been cut. I wanted them to stick out separately from the body, but this made frosting the cake too hard.
Since Eve is a high tech robot, and looks sleek and shiny in the movie I felt fondant would be the only way to go. I decided that using marshmallow fondant to frost the cake would be best, because it has a more shiny appearance than regular fondant.
After I cut out the pieces, I frosted the cake(s) with store bought frosting to save time. Then I rolled and placed the fondant on the cake. The rest of the decorations on the cake are fondant that I tinted with Wilton gel coloring.
This was my first time ever using fondant. It was a little easier than I thought, and gave the cake the right effect. Hope this inspires you to make your own cake!
That’s cool! I like it.
Thanks for sharing! You did inspire me to try it for my sons 4th birthday! And it will also be my first time w/fondant!!! I hope I do as well as you!
I was so happy to see your EVE cake. My son will be three this week and wants a Wall-e/EVE birthday. I am going to try using fondant for the first time. I hope it is as beautiful as your cake. Thank you so much for sharing!
