I made this Eve Wall E Cake for a friend’s daughter’s 3rd birthday. She loves Eve and her only request was that Eve had her scope and lazer on her.
I started by making a chocolate cake from scratch and buttercream frosting from scratch. I baked the cake in a 1/2 sheet cake pan. I then made a drawing on parchment paper of the size I was going to make Eve with details of how I wanted the cake to look at the end. I took another sheet of parchment paper and over-layed it over my drawing. I traced out templates of the head and body and arm that is shooting the lazer to cut out of my 1/2 sheet cake.
While the cake was cooling I made MM fondant to use for the scope and lazer. I colored the fondant black with Wilton black gel food coloring and molded the scope and lazer shooter by hand.
I cut out the cake using my templates and covered them with buttercream frosting. I then moved the cake to my cake board and smoothed out the frosting with the back of a large metal spoon (very time consuming). I then used black and royal blue gel food coloring to my buttercream to make Eve’s face and Eyes. I used a small cake dowel to attach the scope and lazer shooter to the cake.
I was very pleased with the result of the cake despite my poor penmanship for the Happy Birthday message (I really have to work that).
