I made this Farming Tractor Cake Design for my son’s 2nd birthday. I made a 9 x 13 chocolate and a 9 x 13 vanilla. I alternated the layers and filled the cake with Oreo filling. The guests raved that it tasted better than it even looked.
The cake is completely iced in buttercream. I used a decorator’s triangle to make the field look ploughed. I got a kit from a store for the little accessories on it. My son loved it and he really loved that he could have the tractor on top.
Getting the diagonal line between the grass and the field is a little tough, but if you take your time, you can get pretty clean line. This is important because as my husband pointed out, the fence can not go directly on the dirt line or the tractors could never plough the field. Adding little patches of tufts of grass with some yellow accent for a flower makes a nice finishing touch
The cows and the fence really made it come to life.
Not sure if you check this – but wondering what you did to make the icing that perfect color brown for the field!
I used the Wilton Gel Icing and only used a little bit at a time to ensure it didn’t get too dark.
Im making a tractor cake also but it is my first cake ever making how did you add the dirt and grass on top of the white icing?
