It was Hunter’s 3rd birthday party and we had it at the local petting farm. What better to do than a Farming Tractor Cake Design. And what tractor is more famous than the John Deere? The 3D cake was a little harder than expected, but well worth it in the end.
The base of the cake (the field) was two 13X9 cakes. One yellow and one chocolate. They were covered in chocolate icing and topped with crushed Oreo cookies to simulate the cultivated field. We thought about drawing corn stalks around the edges but didn’t have quite the artistic talent, so we went with the simple green and yellow blossoms. The tractor itself, along with the trailer, were loaf pans. The wheels were then cut out of 13X9s. Toothpicks did a wonderful job holding them to the tractor.
We made rails on the trailer out of wooden dowels, held together by hot glue. Rice Krispie treats were used to simulate bails of hay. We added little animals to the cake to give it just the extra touch it needed. Everything came together wonderfully, and we hope this design can help many other little farm boys!!
THAT IS SO CUTE!!!!!
My daughter-in-law made a cake similar to this one and it was the hit of his 4th birthday party. His maternal grandparents are farmers with John Deer equipment. Collin has everything John Deer and believe he will take over the farm when the grandparents retire. Got a bailer from grandpa and said, “Oh, that’s what I always wanted!” He is such a blessing to have in the faminly!
