After making several BD cakes for my grand-daughters, my son complained that I had never made him one when he was little, so, since he is a firefighter, I surprised him with a Homemade Firefighter Helmet Birthday Cake.
This was the first time that I had used fondant and I thought that it came out great. I used Marzipan to form the upper part of the helmet and fondant for the Velcro and front patch. To make it a little more real, I colored shredded coconut with black, to give it the look of ashes.
My son and everyone just loved the cake.
